What has happen to me?
First - I am a journalist. The truth, fairness, and accuracy are paramount to my sense of well being, and the fear of failing to honor those keeps me up at night. Seriously. I lack sleep.
Second - I can’t stop fabricating things as jokes when I talk to people in social conversation. That’s sort of frightening! But I laugh right after, and they laugh, wondering, Why do I continue to talk to this person? HAHA!
One - the great - and patient - events director at my company informed me (and others) that a location we’re looking at for an event has wi-fi. Immediately, I thought - why not ask if the wi-fi has some made up feature that allowed people to “share data simultaneously through multiple ports?” I believe I called it nano-districting or something. And because I sometimes know about technology, she took my question as serious. Thankfully, I called her to say I made it up before she asked someone there. Thankfully, she still talks to me. HAHA!
Two - appropos of nothing, I told someone that I have a tatoo on my back - of a man holding up the earth, with a Pink Floyd quote above it. I don’t. HAHA!
I could probably come up with more examples if I thought about it. Ladies and gentlemen, if I introduce myself as a journalist, my integrity is unimpeachable. Any time else, run away.
